Habitat of Sunda Panglion in Petungkriyono Forest
Discover the ongoing research into the Sunda Panglion's habitat in Petungkriyono Forest, based on local insights and field observations to support future conservation.

Since we found a Sunda Panglion crossing the road in Tlogopakis Village, we have a high curiosity about its remaining habitat in Petungkriyono. We did a preliminary study about its habitat by interviewing huntsmen and local people who usually go to the forest.
We got information on several patches of Sunda Panglions' habitat. Then now, we are still in the process of data collecting by doing observation and research sampling.
We identified several key areas in the forest where signs of Sunda Panglion activity were evident—such as claw marks on tree trunks, disturbed leaf litter, and reports of recent sightings by local residents. These initial findings prompted us to conduct more in-depth field surveys, focusing on environmental factors such as vegetation type, elevation, water sources, and levels of human disturbance.
With the help of GPS mapping tools and camera traps, we are beginning to create a clearer picture of the Panglion’s habitat range. Our early data suggest that these elusive creatures favor dense, undisturbed areas with minimal human activity, particularly in regions close to natural water bodies.
To strengthen our research, we’ve also begun collaborating with conservation biologists and forest rangers. Together, we aim to understand not only where Sunda Panglions are living, but how their habitats are being affected by logging, hunting, and land-use changes.
In the coming months, our focus will shift toward more structured habitat assessments and possibly the tagging of individuals to track movement patterns. Through this work, we hope to raise awareness and build a foundation for future conservation efforts.
Stay tuned for updates as we uncover more about the secret life of the Sunda Panglion in the heart of Petungkriyono Forest.
